ABSTRACT

This study aims to develop and implement a digital literacy-based educational program to foster convergent problem-solving ability among middle school students and examine changes in digital literacy and convergent problem-solving ability. The program was developed through a review of relevant literature and previous studies, interviews with middle school teachers, expert content validation, and subsequent revisions. Participants were 44 first-year middle school students in Chungcheong Province, Korea. The program was implemented once a week for 90 minutes. The program focused on identifying problems in digital environments, searching for and analyzing information, exploring solutions, and creating and sharing digital content. Digital literacy and convergent problem-solving ability were measured during the first, third, and seventh sessions, and repeated-measures analysis of variance(ANOVA) was conducted. Students’ worksheets and products, classroom observations, and individual interviews were also used to supplement the quantitative findings. The results showed significant changes in digital literacy and convergent problem-solving ability across measurement points, with different patterns of change across subfactors. These findings suggest that digital literacy-based educational programs may serve as an educational approach to fostering digital literacy and convergent problem-solving ability among middle school students.
